John Godbold

Board Director

John Godbold was born in 1969, the same year as the historic Moon Landing. At the age of five, in 1975, he witnessed NASA's first crewed international space mission with the Soviet Union, despite the ongoing Cold War. This mission captivated millions worldwide as the Apollo spacecraft docked with the Soviet Soyuz capsule, and the two nations shook hands, symbolizing a moment of unity during turbulent times. John was one of those inspired viewers, sparking his lifelong passion for rockets.

John pursued his dream by attending Georgia Tech, where he earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering. In 1991, he achieved his dream job at NASA as a Rocket Scientist. There, he worked directly on the space shuttles, installing experiments for space missions.

He currently serves on the Georgia Tech College of Engineering Advisory Board and volunteers with the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, where he inspires youth through hands-on STEM activities. His goal is to bring STEM activities to the Club, where kids can have fun and not think they are being taught math and science. By showing them that math and science can be fun and relevant, he aims to help shape the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and leaders.
